The Significance of Grade 4

The Grade 4 class marks the beginning of the Intermediate Phase, a crucial stage in a child’s educational journey where foundational skills are expanded and critical thinking is nurtured. At Westering Primary School, we emphasize the development of independence and responsibility, preparing our students for future academic challenges.
Our Grade 4 curriculum is designed to engage students with diverse subjects, encouraging curiosity and a love for learning. This phase is pivotal as it lays the groundwork for advanced studies, fostering a supportive environment where students can thrive and grow.

Voices from Our Grade

“What an incredible year we’ve had in Grade 4! We explored Port Elizabeth’s rich history through its iconic monuments, enjoyed a fun-filled day feeding and caring for animals at Holmeleigh Farm. From the tech-savvy builders of robots to the budding musicians mastering new instruments, every moment was a joy. And who could forget our out-of-this-world Oreo moon phases? Through it all, the children’s laughter, curiosity, and enthusiasm made every day a delight. It’s been an absolute privilege to share in their growth and adventures – what a wonderful year!”

“It’s not easy having 2 kids in the same grade (twins). As a parent of twins it became difficult to juggle their very active sporting programmes, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. Being able to stand on the sidelines of the countless girl and boy hockey games, as well as the rugby games and offering our kids endless support on and off the field will always be memorable to me. We enjoyed the Westering Walker’s Challenge where it was a competition between the 2 to see who could do the most laps. The winner was rewarded with a Big Mac meal. How could I forget the projects we had to do this year. It was thoroughly enjoyed. Yes, twice as much work, but I’d say twice the fun, laughter and tears here and there when the desired result was not achieved. The Water Cycle, the Musical Instrument (both made guitars) and the Maths shapes Robot. Those were the best labours of love!  But what stood out the most, was the steady and consistent growth and development the twins gained on and off the field especially in the classroom! The cherry on the cake for a parent of twins is to see that both kids can excel in a sport and be rewarded for it as we saw at Prize-giving this year! All their hard work and dedication has paid off!”

“The highlight of my year was competing in the Annual Intersen Spelling Bee. It was an honour to compete against the other children and it taught me resilience.”

“The interactive exhibits made learning fun and engaging for everyone.”
